The completely unexpected but very real relationship between Girl Scout Cookies and weed has recently received its newest confirmation, as Girl Scouts of Colorado lifted the ban that prevented members from setting up shop outside of Colorado dispensaries.
Exploring Creative Sales from a Young Age
As stated by spokesperson AnneMarie Harper, the Colorado chapter of the Girls Scouts of the USA had been receiving a lot of complaints from its members on account of the previous guidelines which did not allow girls to set up booths outside of “adult-oriented” businesses like Casinos, Breweries and Pot Shops.
Last year, a very audacious and entrepreneurial girl scout from California made headlines for selling over 300 boxes in one afternoon, by simply standing outside of a San Diego dispensary and using the shop’s Instagram page to leverage her sales.
Although the unidentified 9-year-old probably wasn’t the first to come up with the idea (some might remember Ross from the Friends TV show pulling a similar stunt back in the 90s), she definitely helped in creating a sales technique that has proven successful to many of her fellow scouts. Though the ban has been lifted, specific booth locations must also be approved by a parent and troupe leader, and be considered a safe place for the activity.
According to a study published by the Girls Scout organization, “the Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world”, and helps the girls develop five essential skills: goal setting, money management, people skills, decision making, and business ethics.
Even though the need to lift a ban on such profitable kind of opportunities had become obvious, Harper expressed that the event has become somewhat inflated by online news reports, since out of the 27,000 booth locations set up across the state, only about two dozen were requested outside of pot shops.
A Long-lasting Relationship
Whether it’s because they’re a super-effective sugary sweet munchies-killer, or just because they’re delicious, Girl Scout cookies have enjoyed a long-lasting relationship with cannabis culture.
The first to come to mind is the sweet-smelling Girl Scout Cookies strain, a hybrid derived from OG Kush and Durban Poison, that was forced to change its name to GSC, after facing legal trouble with the original organization’s trademark.
If you want to find a booth for this year’s cookie season, you can use the search box provided via this link, so that even if you’re not lucky enough to find a booth right outside of your favorite dispensary, you might still be able to get your weed and your cookies on the same run.
